The shortest summary of my PhD is the following: it’s hard to be a voluntary carbon offset certification!
Don’t believe me?
Check out the figure below, which shows the total value generated by the most prominent certifications in voluntary carbon markets between the launch of the first fully-fledged certification in the market and the beginning of the implementation of the Paris Agreement.
‘Blue’, ‘grey’, and ‘orange’ remain strong over time, but no certification holds to the top throughout the period of analysis.
Want to know who ‘blue’, ‘grey’, and ‘orange’ are? Want to know how ‘green’ came from behind to sweep under others? … Awesome! I’ll let you know when publications about this project start to see the light of day.
